  1. Arms

    2. Arms I with slight increase in thickness.

    4. Arms subequal; arm sucker count 60-67.

    7. web more extensive on dorsal arms; Web formula - A=B>C=D>E.
    8. Males with two fields of enlarged suckers present on all arms; largest sucker diameter of distal field approximately equal to that of proximal field.

    1. Without lobe near anterior insertion in preserved specimens.
    2. Fins contracted on preservation; appear short.

    1. Small, half-orange appearance.
    2. 7 primary lamellae per gill.

  6. Optic lobes and nerves
    1. Optic lobes kidney-shaped.
    2. 4 optic nerve tracts pass through/by white body.

  7. Digestive tract
    1. Intestine approximately same length as esophagus.
    2. Digestive gland unilobular.

  8. Male reproductive system
    1. Accessory gland "2" largest.
    2. Penis short.

    1. Not known.

  10. Shell
    1. U-shaped with short, flaring lateral wings.
    2. Outer surface of saddle concave due to highly inrolled edges; inner surface convex. Saddle with U-shaped cross-section.
    3. Lateral wings with inrolled margins, tapers to acute points.

  11. Pigmentation
    1. Skin orange-brown in the fresh octopod, reddish-brown after preservation.
    2. Oral surface of web deeply pigmented centrally; oral surface of arms much less pigmented.
    3. Areolae not apparent.

Comments

The above description is taken from Villanueva et al., 2002. The digestive system was not completely dissected. Therefore, information on the beaks, radula, salivary glands and shape of the intestine is not known. The extreme inrolling of the margins of the shell could be due to freezing prior to fixation (Villanuevaet al., 2002).
